I went to see a great one man show tonight with Ray and Mary, my floormates: Un Fou noir au pays des blancs (A crazy black man in the land of white people). It's about Pie Thibanda's experience in emigrating from the Congo to Beligium. There's so much people do not understand in regards to a persons impulse to leaving the land of their birth. Most of the time, these people don't want to leave their country. It's a choice between life or death. Since many of us have an impulse to live, emigration is the only way. His story, told as a griot would tell it, leaves us smiling, laughing, singing and thinking --never diminishing our impact on or responsibility for the people in this story.
